Steps to Begin
With FRCC's surgical technology program, you'll have skillful teachers, get real-world experience, and graduate in just two years. Ready to get started? Follow the steps below for admission into the Surgical Technology program.
Step 1: Attend Mandatory Virtual Information Session

Step 2: Apply to Become A Student At FRCC
Step 3: Complete Prerequisite Coursework and/or Transfer Credit
- A minimum GPA of 2.75 in these seven courses is required.
- The following prerequisite coursework must be completed before enrolling in the program,
with a letter grade of “C” or better:
- BIO 1010 Biology Foundations (2 credits)
- BIO 1006 Basic Anatomy and Physiology (4 credits)
- ENG 1021 or ENG 1022 or ENG 1031 English Composition I (ENG 1021) or English Composition II (ENG 1022) or Technical Writing I (ENG 1031) (3 credits)
- MAT 1140 Career Mathematics or higher
- HPR 1045 Medical Record Terminology (2 credits)
BIO 2101/BIO 2102 Human Anatomy & Physiology I with Lab and Human Anatomy & Physiology II with lab can count in lieu of BIO 1006. Students must have taken both courses for the substitution to occur.
- The following courses can be in progress when enrolling in the program:
- BIO 2104 Microbiology (4 credits with lab) *
- PSY 2440 Human Growth and Development*
Have Prerequisites from Another College?
If any prerequisite coursework was taken outside of the FRCC system, you must have your transcripts officially evaluated through the FRCC Registrar's office.
- All prerequisites must be transferred to your FRCC transcript.
- Evaluations take up to 30 days to complete after Admissions & Records receives the official transcript and the Transfer Credit Evaluation Form. Be sure to specify AAS in Surgical Technology as your degree plan.
- To be considered official, transcripts may not be issued to the student; transcripts must be mailed directly from the previous college to the FRCC Admissions & Records department.
Step 4: Attend Mandatory Orientation
Attend a mandatory orientation for the Surgical Technology program.
- The Program Director will contact all students to confirm date, time and location.
- If students do not attend orientation they will be dropped from the program.
- This meeting will include important information about next steps into the program, what classes they will need to enroll in and how to enroll in their classes.
Step 5: Required Immunizations & Additional Requirements
Required Immunizations
All immunizations need to be current throughout the program. Allied Health students who are in programs that have a clinical rotation requirement must have proof of the following to go to their clinical site:
- 2 step TB Test (valid for 1 year and must remain current throughout entire program)
- Tdap (within 10 years)
- Hepatitis B Series (three shots) or proof of immunity via a titer
- Measles, Mumps Rubella (MMR, two shots or proof of immunity via a titer)
- 2 Varicella (Chickenpox-proof of vaccination or immunity via titer)
- Seasonal influenza vaccine October - March
- COVID-19 vaccine series
Additional Requirements
- American Heart Association BLS Provider CPR cards (valid for two years), except EMS which follows the Colorado State guidelines for CPR.
- Passing a background check and drug test through FRCC will also be required.
- Students will register for the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) within their clinical rotation. This registration is required to work in the state of Colorado.
Step 6: Enroll & Complete Program
Enroll in the Surgical Technology program specific classes and complete the program.
